I would have enjoyed it even without the quite cleverly handled plot, because I just love those 1950's British interiors, lamps, telephones (which featured prominently here) wallpaper & what have you. And the occasional atmospheric street scene. What the ABC consistently brings us in these late night outings is the average, mediocre entertainments of the time & place (with the time & place varying nicely from 1930s Hollywood to immediate postwar Britain, & lots of variations on those themes).
